Neon is an anthology series of loosely connected short stories set in a city that never sees daylight. This gritty, immersive world is filled with morally grey characters, from hardboiled detectives to ruthless criminals, all trying to survive in an unforgiving environment. Blending elements of crime noir, sci-fi, and eldritch horror, NEON offers a dark and unpredictable atmosphere where anything can happen.
On an alien world, a catastrophic crash landing of a massive arc ship led to the discovery of Genesis, a mysterious substance that grants extraordinary abilities and curses with grotesque mutations. Genesis granted miraculous healing abilities, allowing those who imbibed it to recover from life threatening injuries sustained during the crash. For many, the miracles ended there, but for others the Genesis transformed them. People began to exhibit strange abilities: enhanced strength, energy projection, heightened senses, the ability to control the elements — the stuff of super hero comic books brought to life.
The Genesis had other, unfortunate side effects. Memory loss was universal. No one remembers their life prior to the crash landing that brought them here. They have no recollection of why they came here, where they came from, or even who built Neon city. Aside from the memory loss, some people were mutated by the Genesis, taking on horrific physical forms. Some of these mutations grant additional abilities, some only grant pain.
Unfortunately, the survivors of the crash are far from the heroic type. Neon city is rife with corruption, and everyone knows things are run from the shadows. And in this perpetual night, the only solace from the shadows is accompanied with the ever present hum from the abdundant neon lighting.
Each short story in Neon delves into different facets of this dark city, from thrilling detective mysteries to heart-wrenching tales of survival. The anthology is designed to be non-episodic, allowing you to dive into any story and find connections throughout the series. But if you find yourself engrossed in the series, you’ll start to find the connections between the stories and the larger picture will start to unfold before you.
